Bernanke at the Fed?

America has had two larger than life figures heading the Federal Reserve in succession, namely Paul Volcker (the slayer of inflation in the 80's) and Alan Greenspan. You almost have to feel sorry for anyone being appointed to fill these outsized shoes at one of the most important jobs in the world. The WSJ is now reporting that Bush will appoint Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Fed to replace Greenspan. For background on this appointment and why it is so important to the global economy, head over to this excellent piece in the Economist.
