All their Beethoven are belong to us
Whenever anyone asks me what my all-time favourite piece of music is, I always have trouble deciding between Beethoven's 5th and Beethoven's 9th. Everything else I love, including Exile on Main Street or Achtung Baby comes after these two symphonies. I don't know many of you are Beethoven fans, but if you're looking to make a start, here's some great news. BBC Radio 3 are offering all 9 symphonies of Beethoven, played by the BBC Philharmonic and conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, for download as MP3 files. Free.
If you'd rather pay money for a different interpretation of the 9 symphonies, you can always try Herbert Von Karajan's first (1963) Beethoven cycle with the Berlin Philharmonic.
